Westarted off going to the castro from Market and Powell using the F line trams (we had a pass), but ended up using cabs mainly. Why? well, for some reason, this line of the tram from powell to Castro is usually filled with nutters, and they’re not the harmless sort. For instance, one afternoon, a guy sat next to me, and started talking to himself, it went like this “I knew a guy who killed someone for just six dollars, and I could do the same – I could kill every one of you. Yeah, the cops trying to do me for a life sentence, but I don’t give a shit, I’ll kill anyone I have to…” and so on it went. We decided to get off the tram early.
Just two nights ago, a guy came up to me while waiting for the tram in the centre of town, and said “your that cop did me over in Oakland yeah you, yeah not so clever now you don’t have a gun on your hip. You’d best get back to Oakland if you know what’s good.” I guess my Scottish accent didn’t fool him. Pretty scary, and all of these things (there were others) have put us both off San Francisco. I’m 6′2″ and don’t scare easily, but these things scared me.
My advice is, if you are going to the castro, get a cab. San Francisco -all the best freaks are here.

I really like Whisky. And I know my single malts well. In one well known bar in the Castro (you know who you are!) I ordered a Glenlivet single malt (neat). What came from the Glenlivet bottle was not Glenlivet single Malt whisky, but instead some cheap rubbish, probably Jack Daniels or JW. Someone should tell the clowns running the bar, that Glenlivet is pretty distinctive in it’s taste. I won’t be drinking there again. www.glenlivet.com

So you’re hungry in San Francsco? I can genuinely recommend one place – Orphan Andy’s Diner in the Castro. Nice people and really good food, in an authentic american style diner, located at the end of the F line (tram). If you really want to ‘pig out’, get the chocolate fudge cake. Truly awesome, and the largest portion you ever did see. (I’m not getting paid to say this, I just though it was really good).
